In August 2022, Brian relocated to Vancouver, Canada and is now a CIYT member of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Canada (IYAC/ACYI), and member of the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Association of Vancouver and the Iyengar Yoga Center of Victoria. He is grateful for the warm welcome from the yoga community and looks forward to sharing and learning together.
With Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra as philosophical foundation, the writings of B.K.S. Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar, and Prashant Iyengar provide structure to his textual study, and insight to practice. As yoga is an experiential subject, the gap between teachings received and what is learned can only be illumined by one’s own practice. Consistent, dedicated practice continues to reveal the universality and completeness of the Iyengar approach to yoga. He is eager to share the light yoga can bring.
RIMYI
Brian’s first Pune experience was in 2004 for Geeta S. Iyengar’s 60th Birthday teaching and celebration. RIMYI extended study and learning trips began in January/February 2006 and 2008. Realizing the significance of an evolving connection to all that was the experience of being there, he returned in December for B.K.S. Iyengar’s 90th Birthday events and celebration in Pune and Bellur. Drawn naturally, he conserved resources to continue learning at RIMYI in 2009, 2010, 2013, and annually 2014-2019. He is ever grateful for these opportunities and the online classes RIMYI has provided since August 2021.
Service
Brian has been mentoring students in the subject of yoga and Iyengar Yoga teacher certification since 2011. In recognition of the time IYNAUS assessors generously gave for his benefit through six levels of certification assessments, Brian volunteered as an IYNAUS assessor in 2016. He completed that role upon arrival to Canada and now serves as an assessor for IYAC/ACYI. He is an active volunteer with the IYAC/ACYI Education Round Table, and able to mentor for Level 1-3 assessments.
Brian served as a board member for the Iyengar Yoga Association of Northern California (IYANC) regional association and the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco (IYISF) October 2015 - March 2020.
